Chef’s Choice PizzellePro Express Bake

When I was younger, we used to visit my Aunt and Uncle for Christmas so I could see my cousins.  My Aunt’s family was Italian so Christmas always meant the most amazing Italian cookies I have ever eaten in my life.  I have mentioned my cannoli addiction in the past I’m sure.   Since my parents weren’t Italian, these baked goods were something that I only dreamed about for the rest of the year unless we made a trip to the little Italian bakery downtown. I never dreamed that I would be able to make these delicious treats for myself some day.

If you’re not from a family that enjoys Italian baked goods, you may not be familiar with pizzelles.   Pizzelles originated in a middle region of Italy in ancient times to mark an annual celebration.  They used to be baked over an open fire with a pizzelle iron and often embossed with a family’s crest.  They have become a traditional baked goods during holidays or special festivals.  You’ll often see pizzelles with a floral or woven pattern on them.   A pizzelle is a crispy, sweet Italian waffle cookie.  They can be eaten flat once they are made or you can form them around a cylinder or tube while still warm so that they cool in a round shape that can hold fillings like.. you guessed it… cannolis!

PizzellePro Pizzelles

The Chef’s Choice PizzellePro makes it possible for anyone to make pizzelles at home!   It quickly produces three party sized pizzelles that are just the right size for cannolis or for snack time.  You can create a set of three pizzelles in 60 seconds!  You do not need to wait for the PizzellePro to heat up between baking cycles which is generally the case with pizzelle makers.  You can use the color control dial to change whether you want the pizzelles to be lighter or darker.  The PizzellePro has built in baking and ready indicator lights that make it very simple to tell when they are done. The booklet included has recipes for not only several variety of pizzelles but also for several cannoli fillings!

Cannoli Pizzelles

I cannot tell you how easy it was to use the PizzellePro.  It takes just a heaping teaspoon of pizzelle batter dabbed into the center of each of the baking molds.  The you close the lid (and latch it) and in less than a minute, I had three pizzelles!  When they come out of the PizzellePro, they are hot and flexible so if you want cannolis, that is the time to very quickly roll them around a dowel (included).  If you would rather just snack on them as cookies, simply leave them on a cooling rack for a minute and they are crispy and delicious in no time.

I used the PizzellePro to make both pizzelles and cannolis and they were delicious! It was super easy to clean up because it’s all non stick. I didn’t even need to wipe it down. There wasn’t even a crumb let when I lifted the pizzelles out. I cannot wait to wow my guests this Christmas when I serve them my own pizzelles and cannolis. You definitely need to get your own! Take a look at my canolli recipe!
