Healthy Dip Recipes: Herb Dip with Greek Yogurt and Arugula

Last Updated on June 24, 2019 by Ellen Christian

Do you love dipping vegetable sticks in dip as much as I do? If so, you are going to love this herb dip. It’s one of my favorite healthy dip recipes! I’ll let you in on a secret. As much as I love offering vegetable platters and dip for parties, I am just as likely to open a bag of baby carrots and enjoy it on my own. I shared this recipe back in 2013 but wanted to update it and share it again for my new readers.

Healthy Dip Recipes: Herb Dip with Greek Yogurt

One of the easiest snacks to offer guests is vegetable sticks and dip.  You can cut up the vegetables ahead of time and make the dip and store it in the refrigerator until the guests arrive.  The only last-minute preparation is placing everything on a tray and setting it on the table.  You don’t need to run to the store to buy a container of pre-made dip.  It’s very simple to make your own using healthy dip recipes like this one.

Many store-bought dips are loaded with artificial flavors and preservatives.  I’ve seen several on the market that have MSG in them! I don’t want any of that in my dip. A very simple way to turn standard dip recipes into more healthy dip recipes is to replace the sour cream with Greek yogurt.  Make sure that your yogurt contains LIVE yogurt cultures for optimal benefit. You can buy yogurt from the store or learn how to make yogurt and save a few pennies.

What is the healthiest dip?

The healthiest dip is really going to depend on what your definition of healthy is. Your choice will be different depending on if you are watching fat or sodium. I love dipping veggies into hummus but hummus can be high in sodium. Since my Mom is watching her sodium intake after heart surgery, she would be better of choosing to dip carrots into a Greek yogurt dip. Of course, you can use any of these dip recipes for chips if you prefer. But, vegetables are a healthier option.

How bad is ranch for you?

Ranch dressing used to be one of my favorite dips. Unfortunately, it is far from healthy. The two primary ingredients in ranch dressing are sour cream and mayonnaise. Both are quite high in fat content. You might want to try one of these dip recipes for vegetables instead.

Of course, not all dip recipes are meant to use with fruit and vegetable sticks. If you’re looking for healthy appetizer dips, check out my Warm Taco Dip with Refried Beans. I love refried beans because they are a great protein source and they are high in fiber. If you’re concerned about the fat, you can look for a low-fat version.

If you’re looking for a healthy dipping sauce, steer clear of the store-bought sweet and sour or barbecue sauces. They often contain MSG and other unhealthy ingredients. Did you know you can make homemade barbecue sauce?
