As a caregiver, I deal with keeping track of medications on a daily basis. Today, I am talking to you about this subject as part of a sponsored campaign with The Motherhood and Care4Today. I would never encourage you to use something that I didn’t feel was a great idea. All opinions are mine and mine alone.
One of the hats I wear around the house is Chief Reminder of Medicine. Marty is disabled and has a variety of medications that he needs to take at specific times of the day. He divides them into those medicine sorters with the time on each compartment and has the best of intentions to remember to take them. My daughter has asthma and takes medication for that and her depression. Like most busy college students, she often forgets. I try really hard to stay on top of who takes what when. You can often hear me asking someone “Did you remember your pills?” It’s easy to get busy and forget to take your pills. Did you know that nearly 70% of Americans take at least one prescription drug, and more than half take two drugs?
Keeping Track of Medications
Keeping track of medications doesn’t have to be difficult any longer. There is a new mobile health management app called Care4Today™ Mobile Health Manager. It is a two-way secure messaging platform that works with almost any mobile phone regardless of operating system or service provider. The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, but you don’t need a smartphone to use Care4Today™ Mobile Health Manager – you can also sign up at the website and receive reminders via text message. Users can create a free account, schedule medication reminders (for any prescription, over-the-counter medication or nutritional supplement) and update information from either their mobile device or the website.
The Care4Today™ Mobile Health Manager is very easy to use. You simply register on the site or the mobile application. Then you click on add medication and begin typing the first few letters of your medication and it should pop up on the screen. If it doesn’t, you can enter a custom medication. Just select the name and image that matches your prescription and select it. You can even upload your own photo if it’s not in the database. Then just enter the rest of the details to set up your reminder (dose and frequency).
You can customize the message it sends from the default “Time to take your medication” to “Time to take your Tylenol” or if you are concerned about privacy you can do something like “Remember to walk to dog”. When you get your notification, just click on the medication icon to show you took your medication and the progress is updated on your report.
You can even use the Care4Today™ Mobile Health Manager to set refill reminders so you get an alert before your medication runs out. Just add the name and number of your pharmacy and you can even call from within the application.
If you are trying to help a family member keep track of their medication, Care4Family™ gives you the ability to support family members by monitoring their medications and helping them stay on schedule. This is a wonderful feature for those of use who are caregivers to elderly parents, someone disabled or children. By linking to other Care4Today™ users, you will receive a notification if your loved one forgets to take their medications. You can then call or text them to encourage them to stay on schedule. Family members who are connected via Care4Family™ can also share their progress with one another or a healthcare provider.
Care4Charity™ gives people who take care of their own health the opportunity to make a positive difference in the world. Users can select one of the three charities (below) to receive a donation from Janssen Healthcare Innovation for each day they indicate they have taken all of their medications.
- American Diabetes Association
- AIDS United
- Save the Children
JHI has committed a minimum donation of $20,000 to each charity, and a maximum additional donation of $90,000 to all of them combined – for a maximum total donation of $150,000.
This is a wonderful took that will make it easy for me to help Marty and Sarah keep track of their medication. I also love that I can send the reports of how they are staying on track to their physicians. This helps them understand what is and isn’t working. If you are trying to juggle keeping track of medications for yourself or a loved on, try Care4Today™.
