Decluttering Made Easy is a 52 week ecourse that will teach you the skills you need to declutter your home and keep it that way. I’ve been following along with their PDF and video lessons for about a month now. I am slowly beginning to see some positive changes in my home. I love how flexible the program is. My schedule changes all the time depending on my workload at work, the kid’s schedules and what else is going on in my life. I need something that I can do when it’s convenient for me.
Decluttering Made Easy
One of my biggest problems is that I just have too much stuff. We live in a small 1865 farmhouse. In 1865, people didn’t have anywhere near as much stuff as we do today. Because of this, my home doesn’t have many closets and has very few cupboards and built in storage options. This means that instead of having a hall closet, our boots sit near the door. Instead of having a closet in my son’s room, he struggles to keep all his things in his bureau. Not everything has a home in my house. Sometimes its home is on top of table or sitting in the corner. This is something that I need to work on.
I focused on two areas this week. My kitchen table is a catch all for everything from groceries to kid’s school work to things that need to be put in another room. I don’t remember the last time that it was actually clear. Instead of putting things where they go, they site on the table until “later” which never comes. I found homes for everything that typically sits on the table and my goal for this week is to keep the table clear. There’s only one thing on it now and that’s my tax stuff that is finally ready to go to the accountant.
My other weakness is bath and beauty products. Don’t laugh. If it smells nice, makes my skin soft or makes bubbles, I have way more than I need. I decided to tackle the bathroom shelves first. This is not only one spot I store these. I have more under the bathroom sink, in the pantry, and in buckets in my bedroom. No, I haven’t touched those yet but I will eventually. I did toss at least a dozen that I did not like and organize the ones that I decided to keep in the bathroom. I put the hair stuff elsewhere. I’m still working on putting everything where it goes and I need to find actual homes for a lot of things that don’t really have a home. At least I’m making progress.

we have clutter. especially on the kitchen table-the name of my blog! too funny. my oldest daughter just started teaching and now we have papers, school supplies, etc all over the place. it’s an ongoing de-cluttering.
I just got on the de-cluttering kick this past weekend. I am trying to clear up my crafting area, which lead to cleaning up other areas. It’s amazing the amount of junk that accumulates…especially when you have young children!
It always feels so good though when I clean out the area.
According to the video, it says that de-cluttering can make you more productive. I totally agree. I feel very overwhelmed when I see a lot of paperwork and junk laying around. Once I go through all that stuff, I feel much more at ease, and more productive!

My house has become cluttered with the decline of my health! I have 30% lung function plus a 6 year old and a husband that works round-the clock!! Our table in the kitchen is the place where I have piles of stuff-an old neighbor came over to visit and commented “same as ever”–ouch. What matters is that we are happy and my daughter is healthy and doing well in school–but I MUST get rid of my clutter! I think a clean house is a happy house and that is what I am striving for.
I learned that I don’t need to feel so intimidated by the clutter.
