It’s no secret that I live in jeans, a t-shirt and my sneakers. I’m just a casual kind of girl at heart. When I was invited to attend the Oz The Great and Powerful Red Carpet Event by Disney, my first thought was that jeans just were not going to work for this. After I stopped hyperventilating from the excitement, I emailed back an excited “Yes!” and started preparing. Los Angeles is a long way from Vermont and takes two very long airplane flights to get there. I left Vermont at 3:30 in the morning on Wednesday, February 13th and landed in Los Angeles at 1:15 in the afternoon, California time. After our shuttle picked up Carrie (Carrie With Children), Louise (Mom Start), and Dianna (Free Sample Momma), we headed to the gorgeous Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena.
Oz The Great and Powerful
Knowing that I only had a few hours to get ready for our red carpet event, I unpacked and freshened up after twelve hours of traveling. I already knew what makeup I was going to wear because we had received the Urban Decay beauty palettes based on Oz The Great and Powerful. We received both the Theodora and Glinda palettes but with my coloring, Glinda was definitely the one for me. After much searching for an evening dress, I had found a gorgeous navy chiffon with a beaded bodice at Gatsby’s Antique Center in Rutland, Vermont. I was worried how the entire look would work out since evening dresses aren’t something I wear often but I was very happy with the end result. Many thanks to Di of Free Sample Momma for zipping me up!
Once I was ready, I headed downstairs to meet Marshall (our host) and the other twenty four bloggers who were attending this event. Once everyone was ready and we’d taken a few photographs, we headed out in vans to the El Capitan Theatre for the red carpet premiere of Oz The Great and Powerful.
We walked down Hollywood Boulevard and got to check out all of the stars on the Walk of Fame. I even snapped a picture of Queen Latifah’s star! We love her music so this was a great experience.
As we got closer to the El Capitan Theatre, we started seeing crowds of people lining the streets and yelling to be noticed. The actors and actresses were all being photographed on the yellow brick road that was the red carpet. Camera flashes were going off and it was truly a much different experience than I’d ever seen before. We were all only a few feet away from the actors and actresses and some of us even ended up in a few pictures!
After all the excitement, we headed inside the El Capitan Theatre for our popcorn and soda and to find our seats. The El Capitan is a gorgeous theatre and since we got to sit in the balcony, we had a fantastic view. We were entertained by a man playing many of the songs on the piano from my favorite Disney movies while we waited for the movie to begin. I was excited to learn that the movie was in 3D because I’d never seen a 3D movie before. Remember… small town girl here. I’ll have more information for you on the movie itself in a future post. For now, just know it was truly amazing!
After the movie, we all headed over to Lure Nightclub which is a nightclub located near the El Capitan Theatre for the after party and a chance to mingle with the stars. Of course, there was tons of food and drinks to enjoy but also some surprises too! OPI had set up a manicure station so everyone could have their nails done with the OPI Oz The Great and Powerful nail polish colors. I was already wearing What Wizardry is This? which is a gorgeous sparkly gold color. We also had the chance to have our photo taken by a photographer with a few of the props from the movie. I chose the top hat and magic wand to complement my dress. After mingling for a while, it was time for our evening to end. Each blogger received a pair of neat 3D Oz The Great and Powerful Glasses and a bottle of OPI’s When Monkeys Fly nail polish which is a beautiful gold flake polish I cannot wait to try. I will have more posts for your soon about our experiences.

Love the dress!! That looked amazing and I love the top hat pic.
Where do I start? I love so much in this post – like your pretty dress. I’m pretty modest, and don’t like sleeveless dresses, so I’d probably have picked out something similar (love the colour). I can’t believe how close you were to the stars! I am also a huge Queen Latifah fan so I would’ve snapped that pic of her star, too. It really sounds like a magical experience, and I’m glad you enjoyed yourselD
Thank you so much, Tazim. It was definitely something I will never forget.
