Help end childhood hunger
1 in 5 children in the United States goes to bed hungry at night. That’s a pretty frightening number when you consider how well off most people are in this country. As a mom, that’s a number that really bothers me because I think of my children going to bed hungry at night. I think of how awful the parents must feel knowing that they cannot take care of their children. I think of how scared the children are wondering when they’ll be able to eat again. I wonder why this is a problem in our country and why more people don’t try to help end childhood hunger.
You probably can’t tell who these kids are by looking at them. They live in every state of the country. They may sit next to your child at school. You may know their mother from church or chat with them at the doctor’s office. It’s not just about being hungry. Being hungry can cause short and long term health issues. Kids that are hungry tend to not do as well in school and are more likely to have behavioral or emotional issues. One out of five children means that there are 16 MILLION children in this country that are hungry. That’s a huge number.
There is something that you can do to help end childhood hunger. Macaroni Grill, in partnership with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, is doing something about it. - 2 eggs, beaten
- ¼ cup milk
- 1½ cups Italian breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated fresh Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 7 porkchops, thick cut
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Grease a 13x9 baking dish.
- Beat eggs & milk.
- In pie plate combine breadcrumbs & Parmesan cheese.
- Heat the olive oil & butter in a skillet & fry pork chops quickly on both sides (4 minutes each side).
- Dip porkchops in the egg mixture.
- Coat in the breadcrumb mixture completely.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until cooked through.
