Professional cycling shorts – Performance Ultra II Bike Shorts review

With the weather warming up, I’ve gotten my bike out again and I’m planning on adding bike riding back into my fitness routine. While I am far from a professional cyclist, when I ride, I want to be comfortable and I want to wear the right gear.  Wearing the wrong clothes when you exercise works against your productivity.  Regular shorts can be binding and uncomfortable when you wear them to bike in.  You don’t want any friction when you are pedaling or to have to constantly tug at the hem of your shorts to keep them out of the way.  If the clothes you wear while exercising don’t breathe properly, you end up hot, sweaty and uncomfortable.  That doesn’t motivate me to continue riding.

Professional Cycling Shorts

Performance Bicycle has introduced a new pair of performance biking shorts. The Performance Ultra II Shorts are a durable, lightweight professional biking short that uses high tech fabrics and a natural antibacterial pad for maximum comfort on those long distance rides. These shorts contain a multi-level seamless pad with an ergonomic shape that allows for rapid sweat absorption without preventing your body from moving fluidly while riding.  They use top of the line compression fabrics which are made to fit snugly to allow for muscle recovery.

I received a pair of the women’s Performance Ultra II Shorts.  The Performance Ultra II line also contains bib shorts, jerseys and men’s shorts.  These professional cycling shorts are available in black in sizes ranging from small to extra extra large.  I found them to be sized correctly. I normally wear a size medium and the medium fit me perfectly. Keep in mind that these are compression cycling shorts and are intended to be tight. I wasn’t sure how comfortable the padding would be since the cycling shorts I normally wear are not padded but it actually helps with the comfort on a longer bike ride. The professional cycling shorts also provide a UPF (Ultra-Violet Protection Factor) of 50+ which protects you from more than 97% of the harmful UV radiation.  This is a fantastic feature for those of us who want to be outside in the sun without being exposed to harmful UV rays.

If you’re looking for a pair of professional cycling shorts with added comfort and UV protection, I would recommend the Performance Ultra II line. They are stylish and comfortable with the added benefit of breathability and UV protection.  Performance Ultra II products can be purchased directly from Performance Bicycle. Regular price is $79.99 but they are now on sale for $69.99.
