I found this project inspiration in a craft book called Stash Happy: Felt: 30 Fun Projects for Felt (and Fabric) Lovers. They suggest creating a story with the design that you stitch on your bookmark. I chose to create a bookmark for an Easter craft. The bottom picture is a palm leaf and the top is the word PEACE. It’s totally done free hand with no patterns but you could certainly trace a pattern or find one online if you want to. If you don’t have these supplies in your stash already, you can certainly go to the craft store and buy them but half the fun is using what you have. If you’re short on felt, the top piece can be from your fabric stash if you want.
Easter Craft – Make a Felt Bookmark
Supplies needed:
scraps of felt in two coordinating colors from your stash
embroidery thread in a variety of colors
pinking shears
ribbon that coordinates with the felt colors
Cut out two strips of felt with pinking shears – one slightly smaller than the first.
Embellish the top layer (smaller piece) with a design of your choice. Place the embellished piece on top of the plain piece and pin in place. Cute a piece or two of ribbon and pin it between the two layers. Stitch around the outside with embroidery floss using the back stitch. This is a very simple Easter craft that you can do alone or with your child. It uses a simple back stitch for all of the stitching. This is the first embroidery stitch I learned when I was a child and could easily be taught to children. You could do this craft with any theme you like for any holiday or you could let your child stitch on the bookmark with their name and some of their favorite things or hobbies.
