BlogPOP: Win a Striiv #fitness device #BPOPCW

I will let you in on a little secret… exercise is NOT fun. You heard me. It just isn’t at least it isn’t fun for me. I would much rather be hanging out on the computer or playing video games on my DS than I would exercise. Unfortunately, exercise is necessary and sitting in front of the computer burns very few calories compared to a long walk or stair climbing.

Well now there is a handy device that combines the best of both worlds. The Striiv  is an easy to use fitness device that motivates and rewards movement throughout the day with games, challenges and donations – all powered by physical activity.

Striiv looks like a small mp3 layer type device. It has a high resolution, color touch screen and is small enough to move between your key chain, belt clip or pocket. You can even clip it on your handbag. Each time you walk, run, go up the stairs, etc. Striiv counts your steps using their proprietary TruMotion technology that is always on and measuring your movement.

Striiv counts each of your movements toward a donation to charity. They are partnering with GlobalGiving to donate clean water to children in South America, a polio vaccine to a child in India or to conserve a parking spot size area of Tanzania’s rainforest for one year – at no cost to the user. Donations are paid by corporate sponsorships and new charitable partners will be added over time.

Now as if the donation wasn’t enough, here comes the fun part. Striiv has GAMES! Unlike traditional time-based social media games, Striiv games are completely powered by physical activity. The first game is MyLand and the more you move, the more your enchanted island fills with exotic wildlife and plants. More games will be added over time. You can even earn rewards and bonuses for walking to lunch or taking the stairs. Each day you unlock challenges based on how much distance you move in the real world. You walk up the street can be put toward climbing the Eiffel Tower or crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.

I have got to say that this is easily the coolest thing I have seen since my iPad2 and that says a lot. I respond very well to rewards and challenges. With the Striiv, you can pick challenges and earn points on whether or not you reach them. You get a trophy too and they clap for you :)

There is a stats section that keeps track of how many steps, stairs, running, miles, calories and energy you have used. There are also sections for MyLand, Trophies, Challenges and a total comparison of your steps based on the national average over time. The donation section lets you choose which donation you want your steps to go toward and it keeps track of how far you’ve gone toward achieving your donation.

This device includes a cord, plug, screen protector, key chain attachment and belt clip attachment. You plug it in to charge and connect it to your computer to sync your device with your computer for software updates, to back up data and to register your donations. You can even charge your battery during the sync process if you choose.

I am in love with my Striiv. As soon as it was charged, I jumped up and did a brisk walk around the house so I could watch it track my movements and have my world start.  Then I had to go up and down the stairs several times to reach that challenge so I could have a trophy.  This has definitely motivated me to become more active. I love that it can be a game to play, a challenge to meet or a way to earn a donation to a charity. It’s easy to use and it’s fun too. This is a fantastic gift for anyone interested in fitness or if you have a teen or child you’re trying to encourage to get in shape, this is a fantastic way to do it.

You can purchase a Striiv from HSN and HSN.com (exclusive bundle for $99.95) or on www.striiv.com for $99.

One of my lucky readers is going to win their very own Striiv! Here’s what you can do for a chance to win:
