There are a lot of toxic chemicals out there that can be used to clean appliances. They probably work well, but I don’t like the thought of what they do to our environment.

Is having a sparkling clean refrigerator or range worth dumping toxic chemicals down our drain. Is there a way to make your stainless steel refrigerator shine without using something bad for the environment? Here are a few of my favorite homemade cleaning recipes that will help you keep your appliances clean without harming the environment.

Best Cleaning Products for Busy Women That Really Work

Homemade cleaning products

Drain and sink refresher/cleaner – Scrub the sink with baking soda mixed with a little bit of water. Before rinsing the sink with water, rinse the sink with white vinegar. The white vinegar will react with the baking soda and work to clean the sink and make the drains fresher. If you prefer, substitute lemon juice for the white vinegar instead and the kitchen will smell lemon-fresh when you’re done.

Stainless steel polish – Just moisten a soft cloth with undiluted white vinegar and use it to buff the stainless steel to a nice polish.

Homemade oven cleaner – Spray the oven well with water. Mix together 1 cup baking soda and 1/3 cup table salt. Sprinkle it over the burned-on stuff in the oven. Spray it again overnight. Close the oven and leave overnight to set. Wipe out the next morning with hot water.

Appliance soft scrub – Put 1/4 cup baking soda and enough dish liquid to make a paste that is like frosting consistency. Use that to gently scrub appliances where you would use a soft scrub to clean. You can add a few drops of essential oil of lavender or peppermint for a different scent.
